Roanoke Rapids Graded School District Superintendent Dain Butler has announced his plans to establish a Business Advisory Council within the district to seek input for local business leaders.

“All business and organization leaders from the Roanoke Valley are invited to share ideas regarding educational and economic development. Primarily, we will be asking for input as to how our school district can better meet the needs of our local businesses,” Butler said.

Roanoke Rapids High School has increased its Career Technical Education (CTE) offerings in recent years adding Criminal Justice and EMT courses, and construction and electrical trades classes.  The district has also partnered with Halifax Community College to offer students more college courses.  Plans are still in the works to open Roanoke Rapids Early College next fall.  If approved by the state, students would be able to earn an associate’s degree and/or 2 years worth of college credit for free.

“Many of these additional course offerings are a result of feedback from our parents and business community,” Butler added.

The first Business Advisory Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 18 in the RRHS Media Center. The event will be held from 6-8 pm and dinner will be served.  The district is anticipating a quarterly meeting  if there is interest.  Interested business professionals are asked to  RSVP to RRGSD Central Services so dinner can be planned.
