These bags will be distributed once per week at Belmont, Chaloner, Clara Hearne, and Manning from 10am - noon. We are also changing the times of instructional packet distribution to 10 am to noon to coincide with meal distribution. Packets will be distributed every other Wednesday beginning April 8. We will have more on that plan next week until then we ask that you visit our RRGSD Instructional Services website for the “Resources for Learning” page. There you can find digital resources for students in Pre-K through 12 in all subject areas for enrichment. So far these missed days are considered teacher workdays so NO grades are being taken at this time. Thanks for your patience and understanding. Roanoke Rapids Graded Schools continues to work with national, state, and Halifax County Public Health officials regarding the COVID-19 (Coronavirus). At this moment, The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is NOT recommending school closures at this time because children have not been shown to be at high risk for serious cases of COVID-19. As you are aware, we have canceled field trips and sports activities. We have also been proactive in our efforts by providing hand sanitizer stations in high traffic areas and encouraging proper hand hygiene. The district is following CDC guidelines and will be reviewing updates daily to determine our best next steps in prevention efforts. Children who have underlying health conditions, such as weakened immune systems, that put them at higher risk for severe COVID-19 illness and caregivers of children with underlying health conditions should consult with healthcare providers about whether their children should stay home. We have posted some additional guidelines on our social media and website as well. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

RRGSD Media Statement: RRGSD received information of a possible safety concern Tuesday evening at Chaloner Middle School. Our principals, school resource officer, and administration performed a threat assessment and immediately turned the matter over to the Roanoke Rapids Police. In an effort to remain transparent, RRGSD alerted parents Tuesday evening by both social media and through the district’s phone and text alert system and requested additional law enforcement remain on campus during classes on Wednesday. “I want to ensure our entire school community that this matter is being handled in accordance with district policies and procedures,” said Dain Butler, Superintendent. “I also want to applaud our staff for their immediate and proactive response.” A preliminary investigation by RRPD indicates there is no immediate threat to Chaloner Middle School’s students and faculty at this time. Further information regarding the investigation will be released by RRPD at their discretion. Additional law enforcement roamed the campus on Wednesday. Safety and security of our students and staff remain a top priority. School officials take all threats seriously and we appreciate when students, parents, and the community report their concerns through our mobile app and website “report it” feature.
Parent Update: Our information is very limited as it relates to a threat we received at Chaloner Middle School.
