Current Information and Notices

The vision for RRLLHS is that every student will graduate and be prepared for success in college, university, and other post-secondary settings.  There are four teachers, a guidance counselor, and two clerical assistants who work with 100 eighth grade students and 100 ninth grade students in the school.
The teachers collaborate to develop integrated units of study that emphasize students’ development of conceptual understanding and independent application of those concepts.  Emphasis is placed on anchoring the curriculum around culminating performance tasks and projects that are authentic, real-world, aligned with other content areas, and reinforce students’ problem-solving and decision-making competencies.
Students will achieve a depth of understanding of curriculum in a rigorous learning environment.  Students will be involved in field trips to make them aware of the community in which they live.  They will visit such places as the Roanoke Canal Museum, Historic Halifax, Medoc Mountain, the NC Aquarium, college campuses, and Washington, DC.  Students have time in their schedule to reflect on their learning experiences and to set goals for the future.  There are opportunities for students to present projects and conduct student-led conferences.
