5th Grade Parents: Unfortunately, the fifth graders did not get to tour Chaloner Middle School this spring in order to see, firsthand, the exploratory/enhancement classes they are able to choose. Chaloner has developed a video for parents and students to view describing their classes in hopes of helping students make wise decisions. The fifth grade teachers have added this video to their Google Classrooms to view. PLEASE take the time this weekend to watch the video with your child in order to make informed decisions for next year. Starting Monday, April 27th, students can go to their Google Classroom and register for their selections for the upcoming school year. Students will have until Tuesday, May 5th, to complete the registration process. The CMS counselors will call any student who does not complete a registration form. #KidsAreOurCustomers
Parent/Student April 20th Update: If you have a library book you have finished reading, we will collect those this Wednesday during our packet pick up. Our librarians will be at Belmont, Chaloner and Manning to collect library books from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Students may return books to any school and we will sort them out, with the exception of RRHS Seniors. RRGSD 3/23 Update: The Governor has ordered all schools to remain closed until May 15th. RRGSD will continue to move forward with our virtual learning plan which will begin on Monday, March 30th. Our teachers are working this week to prepare. Additionally, we will continue our Grab & Go Meal service Monday through Friday from 10 to noon at both Manning and Belmont Elementary Schools. Parent/Student Alert: Roanoke Rapids Graded Schools will be closed starting Monday March 16, 2020 through at least March 30th in accordance with the emergency declaration from the Governor in response to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 (Coronavirus). This includes Roanoke Rapids Early College High School. We are also in the process of determining if we can provide school nutrition for our students. This information will be shared in the coming days. While we were hopeful to remain open, we must comply with these directives. All campuses will be open on Monday to allow staff ONLY to retrieve items they may need.
Students helping students: Members of the RRHS Science National Honor Society created science fair-type projects to share with 4th and 5th graders at our RRGSD elementary schools this week to get students interested and excited about science. Next week they will be at Manning to share the projects with the same age group. This was a student led project and we are very proud of the work they’ve done. #KidsAreOurCustomers

Congratulations to Manning 2nd Grade teacher Brooks Ard on being awarded the Roanoke Electric Cooperative Bright Ideas Grant. Her idea of "Bringing Fairy Tales to Life" was chosen for funding. We will be purchasing fairy tale STEM problem-solving kits to use in January and February during our study of fairy tales and folk tales.

Roanoke Cinemas will be having a special showing of the movie Peter Rabbit (the live action one) this Saturday, Feb 23 at 10 a.m. Teachers and school staff will be watching the children so you can have a free morning. Parents and siblings are also welcome to stay and watch too! The cost for this event is $10 and includes popcorn, drink, and admission to the movie. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Manning or Belmont or call 519-7400 and ask for Mrs. Wynne for more information. (We will also be showing Jurassic Park in Spanish in the other theater. The ESL Silent Auction at Manning will be open until 6:30 today! Tickets are 50 cents each or 12 tickets for $5. There are many items for all ages and gift certificates to many local businesses! We also have a 50/50 raffle with tickets for $1. The talent show is tonight at 6:30; tickets are $5 at the door! All proceeds from these events benefit the RRGSD ESL program!
Applications are now being accepted for our summer Place to Play program for grades K-5 June 18-Aug 10th at Belmont Elementary. Several field trips are planned and the $100/week fee includes breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Thanks once again to our school staff and local law enforcement for protecting our schools. Staff discovered potential social media threats in neighboring counties overnight (2/20) that urged us to use extra caution today. While there were no direct threats to RRGSD, it is always our first priority to take every precaution necessary to provide a safe learning environment for our students. #KidsAreOurCustomers
Just a reminder, picture day for grades 3-5 is Wednesday, Feb.21st and picture day for K-2 will be on Thursday, Feb. 22nd. Also, class picture order forms and money need to be turned in on picture day. #KidsAreOurCustomers
Parents: Please be aware we have cases of flu, strep throat, and stomach virus in our community. We are taking every effort to see that your child is healthy while at school. We are wiping down desks throughout the day and doing extra cleaning after hours. We ask if your child has any of these symptoms, please keep him or her home until all symptoms are gone for 24 hours. If your child has a fever, please keep them home until the fever is gone for 24 hours without fever lowering medication. If you have any concerns over your child's health, please contact their medical provider. It's not too late to get a flu shot. [Manning Parents] If you park at the old Manning and walk your child to the new building, there will be some changes as we begin the demolition process. Parking in front of the old cafeteria will be eliminated during this phase of construction. This will impact parkers and walkers as they travel to the new building.
