Roanoke Rapids Early College Student Life

Early College

Thinking of applying for the 2022 School Year?

What is an Early College?

While students in “traditional” paths complete at least 28 high school credits in grades 9-12 to earn their high school diploma, students in “innovative” paths like Early Colleges are dually enrolled in high school and community college for four or five years. RRGSD is excited to offer this blend of high school and college at Roanoke Rapids Early College High School (RRECHS). It is an efficient and cost-effective way for students to earn a high school diploma AND an associates degree or career certificate (with two years of transferable college credit) through Halifax Community College.

Early College Scholars

Who can attend RRECHS?

Scholars who are rising ninth grade students for the school year 2021-2022 may apply. These scholars should be excited about learning in smaller environments with the challenging opportunity of beginning college classes early in their high school career. Students will be able to earn their high school diploma and associate's degree or career certificate without paying tuition or textbooks and without finding transportation to the community college.

Early College schedule

What is a typical day at RRECHS?

Students at RRHS and RRECHS will ride RRGSD buses together and have the same Christmas and Easter breaks. RRECHS will be eligible to play sports on RRHS teams and attend RRHS extracurricular activities including dances.

How do we apply for RRECHS?
