Roanoke Rapids Early College Recognizes Seniors on College Signing Day
Roanoke Rapids— May 5, 2023 — College Signing Day celebrations began in late April for high school seniors across the country. The celebration, similar to National Signing Day for athletics, “is a day where everyone comes together to celebrate students who have committed to their future plans—whether that’s a community college, the military, transferring institutions, a four-year university, or an industry-recognized certificate program.” (www.collegesigningday.org) Many programs also recognize students who have decided to take a gap year or decided to go directly into the workforce.
Future Plans and Scholarship Totals
Twenty-nine seniors were recognized on Tuesday, May 2nd during the College Signing Day program at Roanoke Rapids Early College. During this school-wide event, family, friends, school board members, and district administrators cheered as announcements were made regarding students’ future plans. These plans include attending UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State, ECU, HCC, taking a gap year, and entering the workforce as a pipe welder. It was also announced that the RRECHS Class of 2023 has been awarded over $3.9 million dollars in scholarships.
