Roanoke Rapids Graded School District is proud to recognize several outstanding students who have recently earned prestigious honors, including the SECU People Helping People Scholarship and acceptance into the North Carolina Governor’s School.
Two Roanoke Rapids Graded School District seniors received $10,000 each from the State Employees Credit Union as part of the People Helping People Scholarship program. Established by the SECU Foundation, the four-year scholarship program helps North Carolina public high school students attend college. Each of the state’s 115 school districts receives at least one scholarship valued at $10,000, payable at $1,250 per semester for up to eight consecutive semesters for a senior attending one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina System.
The awards are based on scholastic achievement, demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement.
Colby Bobbitt, senior at Roanoke Rapids Early College High School, and Ashleigh Moseley, senior at Roanoke Rapids High School, were each awarded this prestigious scholarship. Colby plans to attend North Carolina State University this fall, where he has also been admitted into the Engineering Program, and intends to pursue a degree in Computer Science. Ashleigh plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she will major in Sociology.

In addition to these scholarship honors, two RRGSD students have been selected to attend the North Carolina Governor’s School, a prestigious summer enrichment program for academically and artistically gifted high school students.
Josiah Ausby, a junior at Roanoke Rapids Early College High School, will attend Governor’s School East at Meredith College, where he will study Natural Science. Lizeth Enriquez Hernandez, a junior at Roanoke Rapids High School, has been selected to attend Governor’s School West at Greensboro College, where she will focus on Social Science.

The Governor’s School session will be held from June 21 through July 18, 2026, providing these students with an opportunity to engage in advanced, interdisciplinary learning alongside peers from across North Carolina.
“These accomplishments reflect the hard work, dedication, and potential of our students,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Tom Daly. “We are incredibly proud of each of them and look forward to seeing the impact they will continue to make in the future.”
Congratulations to these exceptional Yellow Jackets for representing RRGSD with excellence both in and beyond the classroom.
