RRHS Turns 100

RRHS Centennial - October 1 & 2, 2021 

Weeks leading up to event:

Bows: Beginning Wednesday, August 18 - Local residents and businesses are encouraged to purchase and display an official RRHS Centennial Bow from Exquisite Occasions, 1025 East Tenth Street for $10.  All proceeds benefit RRHS Building Preservation.  

Painting:  Purchase the the official Centennial water color painting or ornament of the historic high school by North Carolina artist Lew Wilson.  Both can be customized with your graduation year.  

A portion of the proceeds benefit student programs at RRHS.

Beginning Sept 24 - Oct 2

Treasure Hunt sponsored by Roanoke Rapids Alumni & Friends Association:  There will be a city-wide treasure hunt. A gold-colored dog tag necklace has been hidden in the Roanoke Rapids area as the treasure. The finder of the treasure wins $1000 from the Alumni Association. A riddle is provided in increments to help you find the necklace. The first clue of the riddle will be released Friday, Sept 24th at 8am. Additional clues of the riddle will be released incrementally on a schedule. The treasure is NOT on school property. The treasure is on publicly accessible property. Saturday, Sept 25

Canal Run on the historic Roanoke Canal Trail.  Three events are planned.  

8 a.m. - Canal Half Marathon (starts at Roanoke Rapids Dam) 

8:30 a.m. - 5K Run (Starts at Roanoke Rapids Dam to Canal Museum and back) 

8:45 a.m. - RRHS Centennial - 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk (loop around Roanoke Rapids Dam Park)

Weekend of the Event:

Friday, Oct 1

9 a.m. - Alumni Association Golf Tournament at Chockoyotte Country Club.  Shotgun start. Approximate cost $280 per foursome.  Sign up using this link:  Golf Tournament Sign Up

3:30 p.m. - RRHS Homecoming Parade (Hamilton Street) 

6:30 p.m. RRHS Homecoming Game at historic Hoyle Field

Half-time at the Homecoming game will include past Homecoming Queens

(If you were crowned RRHS Homecoming Queen while in high school, please call RRHS to be added to our list to be recognized during the Homecoming Halftime. )

Saturday Oct 2, 10am-4pm

RRHS - Community Events

10 a.m. - Parade along Hamilton Street celebrating 100th and the Cornerstone time capsule reveal in front of RRHS.  

Cornerstone Ceremony assisted by Masons - A time capsule was cemented by the Masons in 1921 in the northern-most corner of the RRHS senior building. We've waited 100 years. You do NOT want to miss the unveiling of the time capsule. The Masons will be on hand to assist in the ceremony for our 100-year-old capsule. The Masons will perform a 100 Year re-dedication ritual.

Special Guest Speakers & Musical Performances 

12 noon - Lunch on grounds of RRHS (various food trucks and vendors will be in courtyard.) 

12:30 p.m. - School Tours begin 

2 p.m.  Alumni Band Performance in Auditorium 

4 p.m. Alumni Chorus Concert in Auditorium

Kirkwood Adams Community Centennial Gala & All Class Reunion - Sponsored by RRHS Alumni & Friends Association 

Cost is $55 per person.  Food, Entertainment, DJ & Silent Auction
