Scholars Honored by Superintendent

RRGSD Superintendent Julie Thompson presented 11 Roanoke Rapids High School seniors and two RR Early College High School seniors with a commemorative gift Wednesday afternoon in a special ceremony to honor them for earning scholar status for nine straight years, from 4th - 12th grades.

“Since March 2020, you have experienced virtual learning, returning to school during a pandemic with individual, family, and classroom quarantines, and now learning new content but still catching up with skills from the previous two very chaotic academic years. We know this journey has been difficult for you and we are thankful for the support you receive from your family and teachers.  We are very proud of you!” Thompson told the audience.

The high school measure for earning scholar recognition is a cumulative “A” average for all subjects with no individual 9-week grade below a “C”.

The following students were honored:

Roanoke Rapids High School: Meghan Beam, Madison Bunch, Crystal Guo, Macey Harden, Karson Hasty, Gabrielle Long, Cameron Neal, Thomas Qualls, Ethan Sledge, Ellis Shacklette, and Ashlynn Stettler.

Roanoke Rapids Early College High School:  Meredith Wilson and Karlee Hammock.

More than 600 students in grades 4 - 12 were honored this week as part of the 33rd Annual Scholars Recognition program.
