Congratulations to our SkillsUSA team! We are proud of our amazing students and staff! From Alaska to Puerto Rico, and all states between, over 12,000 gathered in Atlanta, GA for the 2022 SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference last week. North Carolina was represented by 206 high school and post secondary students in this massive conference where only the 1st place finishers from their respective states competed in leadership and career technical skills. Among them were 3 students from Roanoke Rapids High School. Meghan Beam, Meagan Beals, and Madison Foster competed against the best Crime Scene Investigation teams from all over the United States. Their contest included a written exam on SkillsUSA knowledge, a written exam on crime scene processing and forensics, a job resume submission, processing a crime scene, individual skills demonstration, forensic evidence interpretation, and report writing. I am proud to announce that their team finished 11th in the Nation for CSI. The week-long conference full of events, ceremonies, and industry vendors has truly been a once-in-a-lifetime experience for these young women. A special thanks to Officer Derrick Moore with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department and retired SBI Agent Walter Brown for their help with mentoring this team. The RRHS SkillsUSA CSI team is advised by Josh Clark, Law & Justice Teacher. RRHS SkillsUSA advisors are Josh Clark, Lynn Moseley, Natalie Robertson and Ginger Duncan who work collaboratively to prepare our students. These advisors work tirelessly and dedicate countless hours in preparing our students for college and the workforce. #TogetherWeSucceed

Roanoke Rapids High School is proud to recognize two very special students, Gabrielle Long and Meghan Beam. Gabrielle is the daughter of Joe and Nicole Long. Meghan is the daughter of Anthony and Leigh Ann Beam. This past Friday night, both of these students walked the stage as they graduated with the Class of 2022, but on Sunday morning, they walked the stage one more time as they were the first students ever from Roanoke Rapids High School to dually enroll in both Roanoke Rapids High School and the North Carolina School Science and Math (NCSSM) in Durham, NC. Completing the requirements to graduate from high school is difficult enough, but to attend two different high schools simultaneously is especially challenging. Both students were at the top of the class in Roanoke Rapids and also finished with a 5.0 GPA from NCSSM. The NCSSM actually falls under the University system in North Carolina and not the Department of Public Instruction making their courses exceedingly rigorous ensuring a balanced and high caliber education. Not only were they dually enrolled in two high schools but both students were also taking courses at the community college level through the Career and College Promise program completing enough courses to nearly earn an Associate Degree giving them credit to have most of their first two years at college already completed. Beam has been accepted at East Carolina University where she plans to major in Biology and pursue Forensic Science. Long has been accepted at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and has been offered guaranteed acceptance into the Eshelman School of Pharmacy straight out of high school. Roanoke Rapids High School is very proud of these two exceptional and groundbreaking students and looks forward to seeing what they do with their bright futures. #togetherwesucceed
