Last semester, RRHS was touched by the tragic death of one of our students. A young man was hit by a car while walking home with his girlfriend after school. The first responders who arrived on scene were kind and thoughtful, while diligently doing their jobs to secure the scene.

For this year’s impact project, the 2025-2026 Chick-fil-A Leader Academy has decided to host a “Heroes without Capes” luncheon to offer their gratitude to the first responders in our area. Scheduled for April 4, members will honor all EMS, Fire & Rescue, and police officers in the community!

Recently, Brody Griffies Welding and Heavy Equipment classes took a field trip to West Fraser. This field trip was a great opportunity for all of his students that attended. They were able to see real world examples of how heavy equipment and maintenance is used and performed in a mill setting and in the woods. We would like to thank Ted Gardner and the West Fraser mill for setting this up and letting us tour the mill. Also, thanks to Williams Logging for letting students run his equipment. We hope to set up more opportunities like this in the future!

RRHS hosted the 2025 Eastern District Leadership conference this past Monday. Approximately 115 delegates and advisors representing 15 schools from across the state attended. Dr. Rosemary M. Thomas, president of Chowan University, was the keynote speaker. Makenna Whitley, Eastern District Chair, and Emilee Campbell, Eastern District Vice-Chair, presided over the event with assistance from Azaria Crudup of Rocky Mount High School, Eastern District High School Vice Chair. Delegates participated in student-led skillshops and completed a service project for Maynard Children’s Hospital in Greenville. Students and advisors had many opportunities to connect and exchange ideas throughout the day. Thank you to Dr. Julie Thompson for welcoming our guests on campus and to John McLeod and Patty Little for providing their expertise and assistance with the advisors. Roanoke Rapids High School is lucky to have a group of students willing to work hard in advance to prepare and sacrifice a day off to facilitate an opportunity like this in our area.
