ABOUT US

Roanoke Rapids, NC is located in Eastern North Carolina off Interstate 95 near beautiful Lake Gaston and the Roanoke River...one hour from Raleigh, Richmond, and just a stone's throw from the Outer Banks and the North Carolina Mountains.

HISTORY
The Charter for the Roanoke Rapids Graded City School system was drawn up and adopted by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1907.  The first school board meeting was held on March 12, 1907.

Although the original school district boundaries have not changed since its inception, the school system itself has evolved and expanded its programs to meet the ever-increasing demands of the community it serves.  Because of the foresight of its leaders, RRGSD has been a leaders in educational developments not only in the immediate area, but within the state as well.

TODAY
RRGSD serves approximately 2900 students in grades PreK through the 12th grade.  The district currently has six schools including a five star PreK Center and Early College that allows students to complete their first two years of college while earning their high school diploma.  RRGSD is also a one-to-one technology district meaning all students are issued a computer or tablet at no charge.  This district-issued devices can be taken home to complete assignments.

Roanoke Rapids High School currently serves nearly 800 students.  More than 550 of them are enrolled in one or more CTE programs including carpentry, marketing & business, EMT, and health sciences training.

Our educators are lifelong learners, 25% have received their National Board Certification and 40% have earned a Master's Degree or Higher.
