Superintendent Dr. Juliana Thompson has decided to resign from the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District (RRGSD) effective January 2, 2026, in order to pursue other education opportunities. Dr. Thompson served the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District with distinction for over seventeen (17) years from August 2008 through January 2026, advancing through multiple leadership roles - from English teacher and assistant principal to Executive Director of Instructional Services, Assistant Superintendent, and ultimately Superintendent. Under Dr. Thompson’s leadership, RRGSD successfully exited low-performing status following the COVID-19 pandemic, reflecting her strategic approach to instructional improvement and accountability. She also worked closely with local and county officials to secure a revised funding formula that resulted in increased capital outlay for the district, ensuring sustainable support for facilities and resources. The Board thanks Dr. Thompson for her many years of service to the school district and wishes her the best in her future endeavors.
Dr. Thompson is very grateful to the staff, students, parents and community for their support of RRGSD during her time as superintendent. She is very proud of the many student and staff accomplishments and wishes RRGSD the very best moving forward.
The Board also adopted a resolution naming RRHS Principal Tom Davis as Acting Superintendent effective December 1, 2025.
