Parent/Student Alert: Roanoke Rapids Graded Schools will be closed starting Monday March 16, 2020 through at least March 30th in accordance with the emergency declaration from the Governor in response to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 (Coronavirus). This includes Roanoke Rapids Early College High School. We are also in the process of determining if we can provide school nutrition for our students. This information will be shared in the coming days.   While we were hopeful to remain open, we must comply with these directives. All campuses will be open on Monday to allow staff ONLY to retrieve items they may need.

Covid 19 alert
Roanoke Rapids Graded Schools continues to work with national, state, and Halifax County Public Health officials regarding the COVID-19 (Coronavirus). At this moment, The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is NOT recommending school closures at this time because children have not been shown to be at high risk for serious cases of COVID-19. As you are aware, we have canceled field trips and sports activities. We have also been proactive in our efforts by providing hand sanitizer stations in high traffic areas and encouraging proper hand hygiene. The district is following CDC guidelines and will be reviewing updates daily to determine our best next steps in prevention efforts. Children who have underlying health conditions, such as weakened immune systems, that put them at higher risk for severe COVID-19 illness and caregivers of children with underlying health conditions should consult with healthcare providers about whether their children should stay home.
We have posted some additional guidelines on our social media and website as well. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Our school community is saddened to learn of the death of former RRGSD Trustee Jane Deese.  Ms. Deese dedicated nearly 60 years of her life to serving children in our community as a teacher.  In 2017, she was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest honor the state can give for those with a proven record of service. She served 28 years on the Roanoke Rapids Board of Education.  Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.

Students helping students: Members of the RRHS Science National Honor Society created science fair-type projects to share with 4th and 5th graders at our RRGSD elementary schools this week to get students interested and excited about science. Next week they will be at Manning to share the projects with the same age group. This was a student led project and we are very proud of the work they’ve done. #KidsAreOurCustomers
