Child Find Information and Process

When a public agency or parent suspects that a child may have a disability, a written referral must be submitted. The referral should include the specific concerns, along with information about the child’s current strengths and areas of need.

The written referral may be submitted to one of the following:

  • The school principal

  • The child’s teacher

  • Another school professional within the local education agency (LEA)

For preschool-aged children, the referral may also be directed to the designated staff member responsible for preschool services for children with disabilities.
